Why your MT4 history disappears, and how to keep it
Trades you know you made are missing from MetaTrader's Account History tab. Sometimes a setting is hiding them. Sometimes your broker has removed them, and then nothing can bring them back. Here is how to tell which, and how to keep every trade from now on.
First, check they are only hidden
MetaTrader shows only part of your history until you tell it otherwise, and a new installation, a new computer or a VPS starts on a short period again.
Right click in the tab and choose All History.
If the missing trades come back, they were only filtered out. If they do not, MetaTrader is already showing everything your broker's server still holds.
Why brokers remove old trades
The history in MetaTrader comes from your broker's trade server. Your terminal keeps a copy of what it has downloaded, but a fresh installation only gets back what the server still has.
Many brokers archive or delete closed trades from that server after a few months, to keep it fast. How long they keep them differs from broker to broker and between account types, and a broker can change it without telling you. Demo accounts are usually cut soonest, and many expire altogether after a period without logins, taking their history with them.
Can deleted trades be recovered?
Not from MetaTrader. Once a trade is gone from the broker's server, no terminal can download it again. No outside service can recover it either, IfStats included: a service only keeps what it sees from the day it connects.
Two places may still have a record. Your broker's support can often send a statement from their own records. And many brokers email a statement for every day you trade, so your inbox may hold what your terminal no longer shows.
Save a copy yourself
MetaTrader can save what the Account History tab shows as a statement that opens in any browser.
Choose All History, then right click again and choose Save as Report, or Save as Detailed Report, which adds a balance chart and summary figures.
It works, with limits. A report is a snapshot: it has to be saved again before your broker trims anything, for every account, on every computer you trade from. Nothing combines the files, and trades already removed are missing from them.
